Jack, Dee Dee, Johnny, & Chuck welcome you to the website for the Smokin' in Rail City Square &
Round Dance Weekend. If you are looking for a fun square dance and round dance weekend,
this is the dance.

The 240 dancers that attended the 2008 dance, our third year, found it to be a great experience.
The intimacy of the convention center and attached hotel, give us a camaraderie that makes the
whole event seem like a family reunion. This event features callers who are fast paced,
smooth, and all are great singers. The dancing is continuous, smooth, and served-up with the
most modern and energetic music. For a two day weekend with only two dance halls, no dance
event could offer more.

We received many many complimentary comments on our feedback sheets and some constructive
comments. We will be considering comment sheets along with the verbals given to us at
the weekend along with our own observations. Watch the Frequently Asked Questions page. Our
responses to the comment forms will be answered there.

Now we are working on 2009! With the addition of DEE DEE, 2009 will be just as good if not better
than the first three years. As stated above we will be doing a few things differently and
planning some new items of interest. Additionally, we expect the attendance to grow. More
people on the floor will just add to the fun. Tell your friends! 2009 will be better and
with a few tweaks maybe run a little smoother. We accomplished what we set out to do.
That is; "We came, We heard, We danced."

We will again feature our box catered supper on Saturday for those who buy tickets at
the dance. Please purchase your meal tickets by noon on Saturday. This year we will
have a chicken, beef, and salad options. "The Barn Out Back", our caterers, are known for
their home made cream pies and dinner rolls. This was well received the past two years, so give it a try.

Our dance weekend, Smokin' in Rail City, takes it name for two reasons. The first
reason is Lima's history as a center of rail activity. Lima was home to the Lima
Locomotive Works which built some of the most modern and fastest steam locomotives in the
world. Additionally, Lima was served by five different railroads and hosted such famous
passenger trains as the Cincinnatian, the Phoebe Snow, and the Broadway Limited.

The high speed steam locomotives puffing smoke and steam as a metaphor is the second
reason for our name. Smokin' and steaming is what we and our shoes do at this dance. With
creative, energetic, good singing, and yodeling callers that we have for this dance,
we dancers are treated to smooth, fast paced, modern music, and a great time!

So visit this website regularly checking out the facility, caller biographies, hotels,
and registration. This site will be updated many times between now and the dance. Please
make hotel and dance registrations early. This helps us to plan and cover the start up of
this dance.

You should especially visit the News Diary. This page will be a diary of activities
that affect the event and the attendees. Additionally, as I change pages
on the website, I will make an entry on the News Diary. That way, you will not need to
scourer the entire website, a quick review of the News Diary will tell you what pages have
changed.
